Gems and Orbs both have the same effect when adding stats to items. Using an Orb has 2 possible outcomes: either the item is upgraded or the Orb has no effect. Gems have the same possible outcomes as an Orb but with an additional outcome which is to break the item being Gemmed. Orbs are only dropped from mobs whilst Gems can also be crafted using the ingredients shown below (where it states an Accessory is required this can be any Accessory). Higher level Ores, Stones and Accessories increase chances of success in crafting Gems.
